ISLAMIC, al-Andalus (Spain). Umayyads. Hisham II ibn al-Hakam, first reign, AH 366-399 / AD 976-1009. Dirham (Silver, 23 mm, 2.65 g, 6 h), al-Andalus, AH 380 = AD 990/1. ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh waḥdahū / lā sharīka lahū’ (‘There is no deity but Allah, the One, there is no partner to Him’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘bism Allāh ḍuriba hādhā al-dirham bi al-Andalus sana thamānīn wa thalātha miʾa’ (‘In the name of Allah. This dirham was struck in al-Andalus in the year 380’ in Arabic). Rev. Citing the caliph’s title al-Muʾayyad billah and ʿAmir within a circle, ‘al-Imām Hishām / amīr al-muʾminīn / al-Muʾayyad billāh / ʿĀmir’ (‘Imam Hisham, Commander of the Believers, al-Muʾayyad billah. ʿAmir’ in Arabic); in the margin, ‘Muḥammad rasūl Allāh arsalahū bi al-hudā wa dīn al-ḥaqq liyuẓhirahū ʿalā al-dīn kullih’ (‘Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth, so that He may make it overcome all religions’ in Arabic). Album 354.1. Nicely toned. The flan slightly wavy and with an edge crack, otherwise, good very fine.
